When Eagle returned to Sedona in 2004, he drove tours to the Grand Canyon, Hopi, Montezuma’s Castle, and various sites around Sedona. Up at five in the morning … out the door at six … on the road for the first pick up at seven. Eagle would return any time after five in the afternoon. Eagle often drove alongside Two Bears who was very knowledgeable of the area’s plant life. I accompanied Eagle on one of the tours to the Grand Canyon. After a stop in Seligman we continued through the Navajo Reservation on a corduroy road to have lunch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. When we got out of the van, Eagle taught about smudging with sweetgrass. After smudging he guided us to the Colorado River where he taught the Tobacco Ceremony – with tobacco in our hands we gave thanks for all the lessons that had brought us to the present and for the lessons and the guidance we receive on our journeys forward, and we offered the tobacco to the river. This was the best part of the whole day – learning gratitude. After lunch we drove to and experienced the Grand Canyon Caverns by Peach Springs before he returned tourists to the resorts of Sedona. Eagle always enjoyed sharing wisdom from the Native culture. And he was most rewarded by the appreciation expressed by the tourists at the end of the day. Thank you, Eagle, for sharing this beautiful day. Thank you, Spirit, for the lesson of gratitude.
