All My Relations

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.”  Chief Seattle 1854

EagleChild believed that all beings on Mother Earth are connected and often expressed Chief Seattle’s teaching.  It was only fitting that his first CD honored “All My Relations”.  I recall that on an excursion with Ben Calf Rope Society of Edmonton we gathered by the North Saskatchewan River.  Throughout the learning Eagle would play his Native flute.  As time passed, we noticed that birds had gathered in the trees and were singing with Eagle’s music.  We totally enjoyed it!!  The birds even sang when Eagle was finished his songs.  Birds sing on a pentatonic scale, the same type of scale as the Native flute.  What a beautiful example of how we are all connected!  Eagle later explained that he always played the Native flutes with five fingers; if the flute had six holes, the third hole down was always covered by a finger that held the flute.

“All My Relations  . . .  when you say those words you mean everything that you are kin to. Not just those people who look like you, talk like you, act like you, sing, dance, celebrate, worship or pray like you. Everyone. You also mean everything that relies on air, water, sunlight and the power of the Earth and the universe itself for sustenance and perpetuation. It’s recognition of the fact that we are all one body moving through time and space together.”  (by R.W. of Kamloops News)

The water beings, the wingeds, the rock beings, the tree beings, the four leggeds, the two leggeds . . .  We are all connected.  We are all one.
